Show and Tell: Rescued from the curbside
There are a few new linkys on Kiwi Mummy Blogs and today I am excited that I can join in with Show and Tell

John and I are unashamed scavengers and our garage ( and house) is full of furniture that we have salvaged from the side of the road. The annual inorganic collection is one of our favorite times of year, and even though they do protest a lot, my children are so well trained that when I am trawling the streets at inorganic time they will act as my spotters and yell out for me to stop from the back seat. Unfortunately for them many a trip home at organic time has involved a car stuffed to the brim with found treasures and children wedged in between.
This year I spotted this very seventies spice rack on the curbside and in a flash it was in my boot. Last week after mooching around our front porch for a few months I was finally able to give it a makeover, I had the perfect spot and use in mind for it.
I was really lazy, I didn't even sand the shelves , instead I just gave them a good clean and used some primer we had in our garage. Then I got my pink paint out, and over a couple of days gave them several coats. My painting is definetly a work in progress, I really should have sanded them, good lesson for some of the bigger pieces I want to make over that are currently languishing in our garage.
In the end I think it turned out well, it's primary purpose is decorative, but I do finally have a place for the little tins I bought at Pottery Barn kids on one of our trips back to Canada, creating quite the juxtaposistion, pottery barn sitting on a shelf resuced from the rubbish. They provide a perfect hiding spot for Millie's hair ties and clips, so they are not longer in her reach and scattered from one end of the house to the other.
I think these shelfs make a sweet little corner in my little girls room and it makes me happy that I took something someone had thrown away and gave it a new life.
